Our exciting Speechies to Darwin Project!

The inaugural “Speechies to Darwin” student unit placement was established by Sue Wilks in 2012 involving 6 Speech Pathology students. It has successfully continued in 2013.

In 2014 ESP&TS Speech Pathologists Daniella Votano and Amber Brooker work in nine Darwin Schools.

ESP&TS has also been involved with the design and implementation of an innovative distance Speech Pathology programs in the Pularumpi (Tiwi Islands) and Warrawi (South Goulburn Island) schools.

Highlights of this Project:

  • Reciprocal visits both to and from Darwin
  • In 2012 ESP&TS successfully negotiated with the DEC to conduct a Teacher study tour involving three Teachers from the Chullora Public School in Sydney to visit two of the Darwin schools.
  • Cheryl Mc Bride OAM, Chairperson Primary Teachers Association, made a further visit in 2013.

ESP&TS in 2014 will be holding a Darwin Expo with guest speaker Roslyn Neilson. Guests will have the opportunity to see the ESP&TS program in action, share ideas and information with Teachers from the schools including observing the Walker Learning Approach (WLA)l, Tribes workshop and Instruction rounds workshop.
